GA Innocence Project

"Georgia Innocence Project (GIP) in an independent nonprofit organization that works to correct and prevent wrongful convictions in Georgia.  Collaborating with a network of pro bono lawyers, volunteers, and students, GIP attorneys and staff conduct investigations into criminal convictions where modern DNA testing was not available at the time of trial.  [They] do not charge for [their] services, and have very strict case acceptance criteria... If there is a compelling claim of actual innocence, and DNA or other new evidence exists to prove that innocence, GIP litigates cases to secure release. GIP has exonerated eight men who were wrongfully imprisoned for a combined total of 139 years.

GIP helps prevent future wrongful convictions by raising awareness through education and by advocating for policy and legislative reform. By remedying the causes of wrongful conviction, the criminal legal system is improved for everyone.

GIP also works with exonerees to connect them with resources to reintegrate into society and to create a supportive community.  Exonerees and those who have been freed from wrongful imprisonment are our inspiration. Through their stories, we can all learn about the many causes and consequences of wrongful conviction, and about the enduring nature of the human spirit." (Georgia Innocence Project)

House That Built Me

Guided by her Christian faith, Leianne tithes to her House That Built Me project, focusing on organizations that focus on housing assistance, foster care, domestic violence and wrongful incarceration.

Finding Our Voices

Domestic violence organization in the state of Maine that exposes the emergency, pattern, and complexity of domestic abuse (yes, emotional abuse IS abuse). They focus on bringing safety, freedom, and justice to the far too many women and children trapped in domestic violence.

Founded by Patrisha McLean a photojournalist named by WOMEN'S e-News as one of 21 Leaders for the 21st Century. In 2016, Patrisha's secret of 29 years was outed with worldwide headlines about the domestic violence arrest of her celebrity husband.

Sharing her story publicly was risky because of the celebrity status of her musician husband but she found countless women in her small community in Maine revealed to her that they too had been terrorized by an intimate partner, with some saying, “I always wanted to tell my story.”

In response, Patrisha created the Finding Our Voices and it became a nonprofit in 2021 to fill in the gaps for support to Maine’s domestic violence victims.

Finding Our Voices celebrates their “Sisterhood of Survivors”.

Women from all over Maine who have transcended domestic abuse, standing proud and speaking loud to educate the general public, and to let other victims/survivors know they are not alone, it is not their shame, and there IS a way out.
